Frame Color Guide
Wooden Frame Color Guide
Every Viperys wooden city map is framed in solid Scandinavian pine, hand-waxed in one of six carefully chosen tones. Each finish penetrates the grain rather than covering it, so the natural character of the wood stays visible in every frame.
Please note: wood is a natural material, so each frame may vary slightly in color, grain pattern and tone. The final shade also depends on your screen settings, lighting, wood grain and the number of wax layers. Photos should be used as a guide only.
Our Six Hand-Waxed Frame Tones — From Lightest to Darkest
- Natural — very light, warm-neutral pine
- Rustic Pine — light/medium, warm golden pine
- Dark Oak — medium, warm oak brown (not extremely dark)
- Palisander — medium, muted brown
- Tudor Oak — medium-dark, vintage oak
- Black — deep matte black
1. Natural — Light, Clean and Timeless

Real character: Very light wood, natural pine with a slightly honey undertone.
Interior effect: Light, calm, Scandinavian, natural.
Natural is our lightest and most neutral finish. It doesn't change the character of the wood — it gently warms it and highlights the grain. Best for anyone who wants the frame to add warmth without dominating the room.
Best for interiors: Scandinavian, boho, japandi, minimalist, modern with white walls, children's rooms, bright kitchens.
Pairs beautifully with: White, beige, light grey, linen, rattan, light flooring, black brackets as subtle contrast.
2. Rustic Pine — Warm, Cozy, Farmhouse Character

Real character: Light-to-medium, warm, golden-pine tone.
Interior effect: Rustic, cozy, homely, vintage pine.
Rustic Pine gives the wood a warm, slightly aged-pine character. Very natural and comfortable — highlights knots, wood marks and irregular edges. Not very dark. A classic warm wood tone that quickly builds a homey atmosphere.
Best for interiors: Rustic, farmhouse, cottage, boho, vintage, country kitchens, exposed-brick spaces.
Pairs beautifully with: White walls, brick, warm beige, cream, olive green, black brackets, ceramics, rattan and plants.
3. Dark Oak — Warm Classic Oak (Not Extremely Dark)

Real character: Medium, warm, golden-oak brown.
Interior effect: Classic, natural, easy to match, warm oak.
Despite the name, Dark Oak is not an extremely dark color in practice. On pine wood it creates a medium, warm oak finish — more golden-brown than deep dark. Stronger than Natural and Rustic Pine, lighter than Tudor Oak. A great choice when you want classic oak character without heavy contrast.
Best for interiors: Classic, rustic, farmhouse, warm minimalist, kitchens with wood, living rooms with light walls, spaces with black accents.
Pairs beautifully with: White wall, beige, cream, black brackets, brick, olive green, light stone, warm lighting.
4. Palisander — Calm Medium Brown, Elegant and Muted

Real character: Medium, muted brown with subtle olive-walnut undertones.
Interior effect: Calm, natural, elegant, less contrasty than Tudor Oak.
Palisander is not a very dark or reddish palisander — it's actually a calm, muted medium brown. Natural and slightly restrained. It brings out the grain nicely without creating strong contrast. A great choice when you want something richer than Natural without going into deep dark tones.
Best for interiors: Classic, rustic, farmhouse, japandi with warmer wood, neutral arrangements, living rooms with natural textiles, kitchens with white or cream fronts.
Pairs beautifully with: Light walls, cream, beige, greige, linen, rattan, olive green, black metal accents, warm lighting.
5. Tudor Oak — Vintage Old Oak, Library Character

Real character: Medium-dark, warm, aged-oak brown.
Interior effect: Vintage, old wood, classic, more characterful.
Tudor Oak is more characterful and vintage than Dark Oak. Gives the impression of older wood — the kind that suits libraries, studies, fireplaces, classic homes and lofts. Catches strongly in the grain and around knots — great for pieces meant to have a mature, traditional character.
Best for interiors: Classic, vintage, industrial, rustic, loft, home offices, libraries, living rooms with fireplaces.
Pairs beautifully with: Bottle green, navy, cream, antique gold, leather, black steel, brick, stone.
6. Black — Deep Matte Black

Real character: Deep matte black finish.
Interior effect: Modern, minimalist, graphic, strong contrast.
Black is our most modern option — the frame becomes a graphic outline that lets the map itself be the focus. Perfect when you want the highest possible contrast and a contemporary edge.
Best for interiors: Modern minimalist, monochromatic rooms, gallery walls, industrial style, urban lofts, black-and-white aesthetics.
Pairs beautifully with: Bright white, light grey, bold color feature walls, gallery walls with framed prints, metal accents.

How to Match Frame Color to Your Wall
White walls
Everything works. Natural adds lightness, Rustic Pine warms, Dark Oak and Palisander are calm medium browns, Tudor Oak brings vintage depth, and Black delivers the strongest graphic contrast.
Beige / cream walls
Best: Natural, Rustic Pine, Dark Oak, Palisander. Tudor Oak and Black also fit, but will be stronger.
Grey walls
Best: Natural on lighter grey, Black for graphic contrast, Palisander on warm greige, Tudor Oak on cooler charcoal.
Brick walls
Best: Rustic Pine, Dark Oak, Tudor Oak — these tones reinforce rustic and industrial character.
Dark walls
Safest: Natural for contrast, or Tudor Oak / Black for a deep matching effect. Palisander and Dark Oak may blend too tonally without good lighting.
